Star Wars 30 Day Challenge: Day 25

25. Character you’d switch places with for a day

Padme Amidala. I’ve always thought that she is such an awesome role model. She reminds me of a tough Disney princess - although she has a tragic ending instead of a happily ever after. She’s much like me in that she rarely lets her emotions get the better of her and is a bit closed up unless she’s with someone she really trusts. Usually a male character has such traits, so it is nice to see a woman with the traits. Not all women are moody and cry several times a week, as many movies would lead you to believe.

I just love her. I love that she never lost her faith in the goodness of others. Being a politician no doubt let her see the ugly side of life, but she never let it bring down her optimism for a better future. She was great at seeing the good in everyone. She had to watch her husband become a man she no longer knew, yet still her last words were “There’s good in him. I know there is, still.” 

She’s just all around an awesome person. I’d love to be in her shoes for a day. She has an interesting job, has a beautiful apartment, and lives on an amazing planet (and she’s married to Anakin, for God’s sake).

Star Wars 30 Day Challenge: Day 24

24. A character you didn’t like in the series.

Generally I love, like, or am neutral about the characters in Star Wars. The films have such a great variety of characters. In most films (especially the ones I love), there’s always that one character that I can’t stand. Like, they really, really bother me, and they aren’t supposed to. It’s usually a female character, but that is, of course, absolutely not the case in Star Wars, whose two female leads are absolutely amazing. 

I really had to think hard about this, but there is a character in Star Wars that I can’t stand that really shouldn’t bother me so much: Mace Windu. I’m sorry, but he’s an arrogant jerk. The things he says always lead me to believe that he thinks he is better than everyone else.

22. Your favorite scene(s) in Return of the Jedi

• Leia disguised as a bounty hunter to rescue Han. She’s a badass and I love her. 
• Luke battling the Rancor. 
• The entire Great Pit of Carkoon sarlaac scene. It’s so elaborate and hectic and awesome. It’s cool to see Luke really putting his new skills to work. 
• Threepio telling the Ewoks the story of their journey. BABY. EWOKS.
• Luke revealing to Leia that they are twins. 
• IT’S A TRAP! courtesy of Admiral Ackbar.
• “I’m not going to leave you here, I’ve got to save you.” | “You already have, Luke.” 
• The celebration montage. I liked seeing a wider scope of how oppressive the Empire was and how happy the entire galaxy was to see it fall. I also liked how it showed planets from all six films. 
• I actually think it was appropriate to have Hayden Christensen’s Anakin appear in the end. The only issue I have with it is that it seems a bit disrespectful to cut Sebastian Shaw out, but - since I didn’t do it, I can only judge on whether or not I like the change. Quite honestly, seeing young Anakin makes sense - that was what Anakin looked like when he became Vader. He was redeemed, so now he’s back to being himself again.

*That awkward moment when you haven’t updated this in a week because the new semester started.

21. Favorite Scene(s) in The Empire Strikes Back

This movie just has it all doesn’t it? Romance, action, suspense, awesome locations. I’ll try to narrow it down. :)

• Leia and Han’s many, many witty exchanges. 

“I’d just as soon kiss a wookie.” | “I can arrange that.” 

“You stuck up, half witted, scruffy looking… nerfherder!” |“Who’s scruffy lookin’?” 

“Stop that. My hands are dirty.” | “My hands are dirty too, what are you afraid of?”

“No time to discuss this in a committee.” | “I am not a committee!”

and, though not witty, absolutely wonderful:

“I love you.” | “I know.”

• Pretty much everything on Hoth. The Battle of Hoth, Han being himself…”And I thought they smelled bad… from the outside!” Yay for Tauntauns!
• Mynocks. Don’t you just hate it when they chew on the power cables?
• Luke and R2’s first encounter with Yoda. “Mine!” Mine!” 
• Vader force-choking Admiral Ozzel and then making Piett Admiral as he looks on uncomfortably.
• Admiral Piett getting a glimpse of the scars on Vader’s head.
• Luke seeing his face in Vader’s helmet on Dagobah.
• Vader vs. Luke. I wish I remembered my reaction to finding out that Vader was Luke’s father, but I was so young. 

Star Wars 30 Day Challenge: Day 20

20. Favorite scene(s) in A New Hope 

• The opening crawl. I know that sounds silly, but my earliest Star Wars memory is watching it with my dad before I learned to read, so he had to read it to me. 
• The opening scene where we’re introduced to Artoo, Threepio, and of course, Darth Vader (given that you watch the movies in order of release date, which I prefer). 
• Obi-Wan telling Luke about Anakin. “He was the best star pilot in the galaxy, and a cunning warrior…and a good friend.” *sob*
• “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.” 
• The Vader versus Obi-Wan duel. 
• “We had a slight weapons malfunction…We’re all fine here now, thank you. How are you?” 
• Han’s “sweetheart” and “princess” sarcasm with Leia.

Star Wars 30 Day Challenge: Day 19

19. Favorite scene(s) in Revenge of the Sith

• Padme telling Anakin she’s pregnant. When he tells her that it’s the happiest moment of his life, he just has such a genuine, sweet look on his face. 
• Obi-Wan versus General Grevious on Utapau.
• The scene that just features music with Anakin and Padme clearly thinking and worrying about one another. Anakin is obviously torn but ultimately realizes that he has to go speak with Palpatine to save Padme. It’s such a powerful scene.
• Anakin helping kill Mace Windu and being named Darth Vader. 
• The “Order 66” Montage.
• The March on the Jedi Temple. 
• Yoda taking out the Red Guards like a badass. 
• Obi-Wan versus Vader.
• The birth of Vader juxtaposed with Padme’s death.
• The shot at Padme’s funeral of her holding the japor snippet.  
• Vader looking out at the Death Star. It is such a powerful scene because even though it is apparent before then that what happens to him is sad, I feel like it finally hits in this scene. He’s looking out at this new life he’s supposed to carry on with while he is surely realizing that he lost everything. Nothing will ever be the same, but he has to act like everything is fine.
• The end of the film coming full circle with Owen and Beru gazing out at the two suns. 

I wasn’t exaggerating about how much I love this movie. ;)

18. Favorite scene(s) in Attack of the Clones.

• I liked a lot of the sweet, more subtle things with Anakin & Padme’s love story. I loved seeing their shadows on the Lars home as they hugged and I loved it when Padme kissed Anakin’s cheek during the arena battle. I loved them teasing each other about “aggressive negations.” They were small details, but I thought they were very great. 
• Anakin admitting that he slaughtered the Tusken Raiders. 
• SEISMIC………………………..CHARGES.
• Kamino in general.
• … And Geonosis in general, too. The droid factory, Padme’s love confession, the arena battle, and the fight between Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Count Dooku. 
• The “Imperial March” slowly being thrown into the mix. 
• Padme and Anakin’s wedding.

• The shot of Queen Amidala sadly gazing out of her palace window. 
• “Are you an angel?”
• Padme taking charge of retaking Theed Palace.
• The Duel of the Fates
